Paradise off the West Coast of Scotland!

The Isle of Barra is undoubtedly an island of paradise, from it’s deep blue surrounding sea to its vibrant green land and tropical white sandy beaches, it really does have it all! It’s often hard to believe that our hidden gem of a home is part of Scotland for many people.

  • Us Barrach’s love our Island Home that much that we never want to leave. Though setting off to the ‘big city’ for College and University is often the case after school, it isn’t long before we return home over the years to settle and build a life and home for ourselves. With the added bonus of having our family and friends close by for support and comfort.

That is actually the story of how the Isle of Barra Distillers was established. Local’s Michael & Katie Morrison sought to return home after years of living on the mainland to build a life together and start a family of their own. And of course, they needed a career to enable them to achieve this. This is when they created their company, Isle of Barra Distillers, which is not only the first legal Distillery to open on the Isle of Barra but the Barra Atlantic Gin is the first spirit to be released too. An incredible achievement for such a young couple in their late 20’s at the time.

Taking advantage of the surrounding beauty of Barra and cunningly using it as inspiration to create the Award Winning Barra Atlantic Gin, Michael and Katie were able to produce the freshest island born fearless spirit which is the delicious gin we all love and enjoy today!

It’s hard not to use Barra and its surrounding beauty as inspiration and it’s very easy to be onto a winner when you see for your yourself, how stunning and unique our island home is.

The success of the Isle of Barra Distillers has been incredible and that is down to the fantastic customers who continually show support by purchasing a bottle of our Island Spirit! And though the company has grown rapidly since releasing the first batch of Gin in August 2017, it still remains a very small family run company in comparison to most Distilleries in Scotland. With husband and wife Michael and Katie taking on most of the daily tasks and workload in the company, there is only one other full-time staff member throughout the year. Seasonal employment is in hand during the summer months to help share the workload during peak times. But there you have it, a little insight into the Isle of Barra Distillers on the island of paradise!

Thank you to each and every one of you that have shown your support over the past few years and especially over the last few months given our current world crisis. The support we have been shown  is incredible and we thank each and every one of you for your patience and kindness during this time.

We hope you all enjoy a taste of Barra as much as we do!
