Blowing away the cobwebs

Blowing away the cobwebs

After a well-earned break over Christmas & New Year (we’d be lying if we said we weren’t tucking into our Fearless Spirit during the holidays!) It was time to re-open our distillery doors, switch on the computer and start up the still.

We commenced the year in style by promoting our first sale of 2020 for our Barra Atlantic Gin, which offered customers 20% off plus free delivery. An offering aimed to fix those January Blues and also as a token to show our customers how thankful we are for the continued business over the last few years.

Our January has consisted of gales, a visit from Storm Brendan, cancelled ferry sailings and even power cuts here on Barra…who said nothing happens on the Islands? The day-to-day life on our Island does have its moments, especially in the winter months in which we suffer out the bleak, dark weather with very little daylight. As picturesque as the waves crashing onto the shore are, it does unfortunately have its downfalls as we face the challenge of our ferry link to the mainland being cancelled for the day or days ahead. This has a knock-on effect of our bottled spirit leaving the Island and can increase the delivery time by a few days. Although the real drama is having to fight over the last loaf of bread in the Co-Op!

Behind the scenes we are lucky to keep our hands busy and have continued with our first few distillations of the year, creating more of our beautiful Gin for our customers to enjoy in the comfort of their own home. Can you think of anything better to do in January than cosy up with a large G&T? We are continuously building our stock, organising orders, checking in with our stockists, adding more to the ever-growing list and creating further opportunities for the year ahead. Not to mention bottling, labelling and packaging each bottle by hand with special care in amongst it all. This certainly keeps us on our toes and out of trouble!

We’re very enthusiastic for the year ahead and have many great opportunities and events on the horizon! Including our first collaboration event of 2020 with beGIN, located on Glasgow’s renowned Byres Road. This will be an evening of several Barra Atlantic Gin twisted cocktails created by the talented mixologists and handmade by the customer, neat tasters and in true Island style, plenty of conversation into what makes our Award-Winning Gin so special. Tickets are on sale through beGIN at a cost of £10.00 per person – bargain! So, if you wish to brighten up your mid-week, we’ll see you there on the 22nd January at 6pm.

We will of course be shouting upcoming events from the rooftop across our social media platforms and in our newsletter, so please stay tuned and get involved with us here at the Isle of Barra Distillers.
