Local Employment Opportunities

Local Employment Opportunities
From the outset, it's been of high importance to us to create new jobs and increase employment opportunities for our locals, which in turn aids our island economy.
Here in Barra, it's very common for the youth to move to the mainland to further their studies, from finishing school. Seeking new opportunities, skills and experience of living in the 'big city' which later results in a dream career.

However, given the size and population of our small island, it isn't always possible for our people to return home to a job that they are fully qualified in. This, unfortunately, restricts the decision to return home later on in life.
It is with great delight that as we grow as a business, we have been able to open the door to opportunities for our team already. Who has achieved a career that they love, whilst returning home to settle back on Barra with their family.
One member of our team, Debbie, believed it wouldn't be possible to return home to live on Barra permanently, due to work opportunities. From joining our team over two years ago, where Debbie split her time between working from home in Glasgow to working with us locally at the distillery throughout, it's been a delight to see Debbie move home permanently with her family and have a secure position within our distillery.
"Throughout the last 2+ years, I've split my time between working from home in Glasgow to working locally at the distillery in Barra. It's been a heart-warming experience being a part of this family run business throughout and seeing each step forward for growth, both for me personally and the Isle of Barra Distillers as a company.
Just a few weeks before Christmas, I finally made the permanent move home and I couldn't be more settled returning for good and working alongside the rest of the team at the distillery!

An opportunity to move home to the Islands and have a secure job waiting for you is extremely rare and I feel so blessed to be in the position I find myself in currently.
Here's to the future!"
