Out with the old and in with the new!

Barra Gin Still

This week has taken us by storm as we journey into our next era. We’ve not only launched our new still Barra Atlantic Gin this week, but have also launched our brand-new website in collaboration to mark this very special milestone.

From our original Barra Atlantic Gin launch in August 2017, the Isle of Barra Distillers has grown from strength to strength. Initiating our journey by contract distilling our island spirit in London at first to finally opening Scotland’s most westerly distillery and the first legal distillery on the Isle of Barra in May 2019, we have worked toward this exact position. We are extremely grateful and proud to say that we are now in possession of the very first copper still to be located in the Western Isles of Scotland as of November 2020.

Our new copper still - which has been named Ada after owners Michael & Katie Morrison’s daughter – was custom built and fitted into our distillery, where it stands pride of place, by the world renowned Forsyths, one of the world leaders in supplying distillation equipment.

Since Ada’s installation, we have been working hard to perfect our new Barra Atlantic Gin. Whilst all botanicals remain the same in our gin, we have worked tirelessly in distilling a bigger and better version. We have ensured the bold presence of our key botanical carrageen seaweed remains throughout the taste and scent and have worked on providing an even smoother flavour, than that of which our Barra Atlantic Gin was most famous for. Of course, distilling in our new still has resulted in its own unique addition to the end result of our Barra Atlantic Gin in a positive direction and we do hope that once sampled, you will agree.

Having our new copper still has opened chapter two for us all here at the Isle of Barra Distillers and we couldn’t be prouder of how far we have come for such a young business. This year we saw an incredible growth in our brand awareness, our customers and our staff. And with the installation of our new 300 litre copper still, we have enabled a larger volume of production allowing us to continually grow and progress as a business.

So, what else is new?
You may have noticed the label on our gin bottle is also different. As a tribute to our new still and our new Barra Atlantic Gin, we have applied a special limited label as a loving introduction to our Ada. You may want to hold onto this as a keepsake as our original label will be making a return.
