The Family Distillery, A sit down with Katie

The Family Distillery, A sit down with Katie
We want to introduce you to our family distillery team and give you the opportunity to learn about our distillery and the most frequently asked questions we receive here at the Isle of Barra Distillers.

Whilst most of you may be familiar with our team already, we’ve had an increase in followers and subscribers throughout this year and felt now was as good a time as any to re-introduce you.

We’re asked ‘What is the Family Distillery’ and it’s more than just about our two youngest ‘employees’.

Being a Family Distillery means brining the wider community of Barra into our story, it is about coming together and brining Barra to the fore, bringing the best out of one another, so that we can do our best for our Island Home.
Being a fast-paced family business, there is always a lot of sacrifice and none greater than missing out on family time with loved ones. We caught up with our Co-Founder & Director Katie Morrison to ask what it meant for her to be known as the Family Distillery.

“What’s best about being open and welcoming to our family and the wider ‘Barra Family’ is that you’re never far away from someone familiar calling into the distillery. We’ve created a special atmosphere that on any given day, there is a high chance that you will most definitely see our own children but also, you’ll see our staff’s children call in too. It’s a great lift for our team as children are the perfect antidote for the long days at work because no matter how busy, or how stressful things might be, seeing the kids in the distillery will always put a smile on your face.”
What about the wider 'Barra Family'?

“The ‘Barra Family’ as we call them are the reason we are where we are, it is their support that has helped our small family distillery grow. We started our journey over 5 years ago and without the local community, the ‘Barra family’ it just wouldn’t have been possible. But don’t think that this support is just from here on Barra, it stretches to all the corners of the world. You would be shocked at how Barra has a connection to many and how many have a connection to Barra and with that, they have a connection to the Isle of Barra Distillers, they are part of our Family Distillery”
Together with our small team here at our Family Distillery and the Support of the Barra Family around the world, we’re excited for what the future holds.
