The Isle of Barra Distillers Ltd story begins only as far back as 2016. Born from a desire to move home to the Outer Hebrides in the far North West of Scotland, and build something that will evoke the community spirit, our founders Katie and Michael Morrison started developing the plans for a Gin and Whisky Distillery.
Whisky is on the cards and the opportunity stands strong for all involved. We invite you to discover our plans for a purpose-built Gin & Whisky Distillery on our Island home. Where we plan to produce the first single malt whisky from the Isle of Barra and rehome our current 300 litre copper still, ‘Ada’.

Since launching our plans just short of two months ago, we wish to share our progress so far. Currently, we have raised £1.3 million – most of the amount raised is a result of private equity investors and the sale of our pre-cask offer. Positive discussions are ongoing with several other high net worth individuals and we are confident to be heading in the right direction to hit our target figure of £5 million. The investors that have pledged their support have a love of Scotland, the Outer Hebrides, of whisky, or all three.
We are increasingly encouraged to find private equity investors who are sharing our vision. The majority of investors expect to see short-term returns when they put money into a venture. We are seeing investors who really like the long-term nature of this.
The ideal investor(s) will understand the desire of the Directors to build a lasting legacy for the Island and the future generations and be sympathetic to the current challenges facing the Island’s economy, environment and eco-system.
The build will be unique, providing the Isle of Barra with a Single Malt Whisky Distillery. It will generate new, sustainable jobs for those working directly with the business but also substantially benefit the wider community, not only the hospitality industry but many businesses both on the Isle of Barra and across the Western Isles in general.
Each Share is valued at £50,000 and with that, the shareholder will receive the following –
