We call ourselves a family distillery, and we really are, but that goes way beyond our own family. The distillery family is always growing - children and close friends are constantly calling in to say hello (and sometimes even lend a helping hand!). It’s all about connections, making everyone welcome and sharing this amazing experience with as many people as possible, extending our family as we do so.

It started as a dream to create a future for their family and generations to come, on the land that they call home. Husband and wife, Michael and Katie Morrison, sought to open the first legal distillery on the Isle of Barra. Fearless spirit brought them back and a desire to return to their roots and create Scotland’s most westerly distillery. The Isle of Barra Distillers was born.

Created with the essence of Barra at its core, our gin is distilled using hand-harvested carrageen seaweed sourced sustainably from the shores surrounding our island home. Carrageen grows out of the ancient rocks that make up the Island's coastline and is full of flavour, medicinal properties, and minerals.

Our Island Spirit is the first from the Outer Hebrides that will be distributed by a UK-wide supermarket.

We know that our home here on the remote Scottish Isle of Barra is not the easiest place to visit. So, we wanted to bring our award-winning Barra Atlantic Gin but, more importantly, our story to you and with the help from our friends at Waitrose & Partners, you can now pick up a bottle of our Island Spirit in over 120 branches UK-wide.

Our remote location sometimes makes Barra hard to get to, and Barra Atlantic Gin hard to come by. But this makes getting to Barra, and Barra Atlantic Gin getting to you, all the more enjoyable.
